west highland white terrier living habits

The West Highland White Terrier is an all-purpose terrier. Outdoors they are good hunting dogs, agile, dexterous, and very intelligent; indoors, they have everything a pet should have, faithful, understanding and dedicated, and lively and enthusiastic .
One of the reasons why many people like to keep them is their patience. They don’t need human coddling, they like to play in the water, play in the snow, and they like to follow skiers or pedestrians across frozen rivers and icy harbours, and they are full of energy and do not feel exhausted. They’re easy to groom as they stay in their natural state with very little grooming.
Active and curious, it is their nature. Because of their hunting dog personality, they have a brave, competitive personality. We are loyal to our master. Some say they love to bark, but in the past, they did this to tell their owners the correct location of pests, and today, their barks make us good watchdogs. Because they just bark loudly at strangers to alert their owners that a stranger is approaching their shared home. They, like other terriers, love to dig, and digging in the yard is a great fun activity for them. If digging and barking is their first nature, curiosity is our second nature.

Because of their small size, they are ideal for keeping in apartments. In terms of activity, they require more activity and activity time. Although they are very lively, due to their small size, they are not very powerful and do not have situations that would leave their owners out of control. An adult healthy West High daily
Go for a walk 3 or 4 times, at least one of which is quite a long walk. Taking us out to work out is very beneficial for them (and you work out at the same time).

When going out, the owner must remember to never let go of the leash, because they look small, but we are super fast. No matter how well-trained you are, it can disappear without a trace in the blink of an eye. A cat or other dog can attract us to run over, and if we don’t look after them, we are likely to be hit by a passing car.

Because of the Scottish climate, we have two coats, and the outer coat protects their bodies from the weather in bad weather.

They are suitable for friends living in the city as well as friends in the suburbs. They love being around people they love, whether you’re going for a run or hiking, they’ll love to go with you, and they’ve got the ability to keep up with you.

They need to be brushed every day. The condition and length of the beard of this breed are very important for beauty. In order to prevent their beard from turning yellow, oxidized and broken, the daily drinking water should use a water nozzle instead of a water basin, and the beard should be combed every day. , to prevent knots, dog food should also be fed dry food. For dogs after plucking, the back hair is generally not washed with water, let alone shampoo and conditioner, because after the oil is washed off, the coat will become soft, fluffy and raised.

They get along well with all family members, and they even know how to get along with very young children, making them good companions for humans.
