Established nearly three years ago by Toussaint, a dedicated advocate for marginalized individuals, the pet food bank was conceived to extend support to pet owners experiencing economic challenges. “We’re here to assist disabled, low-income, and elderly individuals by providing pet food and supplies during difficult times,” Toussaint explained in an interview with CTV News London, underscoring the significance of their mission. “There are people who come to us whose pets haven’t had any food in two days.”
Fueled by donations from local retailers and a robust social media community of 3,000 members, the pet food bank has been instrumental in distributing two-week supplies of food to hundreds of households. “On slower days, we might see three to five people, but during peak times, it’s a steady stream, one after another, totaling around 20 to 25 people,” Toussaint elaborated, highlighting the organization’s considerable reach.
Despite its impactful service, the future of the pet food bank hangs in the balance due to a series of unfortunate developments. Toussaint disclosed that an anticipated relocation to a larger facility was abruptly revoked by the landlord, leaving the organization in a precarious position. “Now, that leaves us in a total lurch because I spent the last two months believing we had secured a new location,” she lamented, highlighting the setback.
Amidst uncertainty, supporters of the pet food bank, such as Judy Templeman, remain hopeful that a compassionate member of the community will offer assistance by providing a small storage space for food or accommodation for Toussaint. “If it’s in a warehouse or similar setting, it offers more space for her, facilitating expanded storage and assistance,” Templeman reasoned, emphasizing the importance of communal support.

Another organization, the No Empty Bowls Pet Food Bank, which recently came under the management of the London Humane Society, provides temporary relief to pet owners in need, further bolstering community support.
