How to care for your pregnant dog

How to care for your pregnant dog

How do you feel when you find out that your dog is pregnant? Excited to jump up? Still smiling happily? Indeed, a dog’s pregnancy and motherhood is something to celebrate. But at the same time, pet owners should also do related care work until the puppy is born smoothly. There are some things that need special attention, and today I will share with you how to care for your pregnant dog.

How to care for your pregnant dog

1. Do not feed indiscriminately

There are some things that dogs can’t eat during pregnancy. Seafood such as squid, shellfish, shrimp, etc. should not be fed because it is not conducive to their digestion. Also, foods that are easy to cause poisoning such as onions and chocolate should be kept away, such as watermelon and so on. Do not eat fruit, because it is easy to cause diarrhea, so there are many requirements to take care of dogs during pregnancy, so some pet owners do not want their dogs to get pregnant!

2. Don’t overeat

In the early stage of pregnancy, the dog should not be fed too much meat and eggs and other nutrients and food intake, because the baby in the dog’s belly is still in the early stage and cannot absorb too much nutrition, most of these nutrients will be absorbed by the bitch, Over time, it is easy to cause them to become obese, unwilling to exercise, fat and inactive, and it is easy to cause dystocia, because it is essential for dogs to walk every day when they are pregnant!

3. Do not exercise vigorously

Exercise is essential for dogs during pregnancy, but they should not be vigorously exercised. Over time, it will easily lead to dystocia. So go out to exercise and let the dog walk slowly by itself. Don’t let it run very frequently. If you walk the dog once each, then you should walk one or two more times a day. Proper exercise is good for the healthy growth of the dog and the fetus in the womb!

4. Don’t eat sharp bones

This is especially important. Dogs should never feed chickens, ducks, and goose bones during pregnancy, because these bones are relatively thin and the intestines are easily scratched and bleed, so if you give your dog calcium supplements, you can give it It is enough to eat big bones, such as pigs and cows, or you can choose some teeth-grinding snacks for it, such as chicken jerky and chicken fries, which can not only grind teeth, but also supplement calcium to eliminate bad breath!

5. Ensure adequate nutrition

Dogs have a large demand for food in the later stage of pregnancy. The food must be nutritious. Leftovers cannot be fed as the dog’s staple food. Because human food is not nutritionally balanced for dogs, try to choose some nutritionally balanced foods during pregnancy. Natural dog food that is easy to absorb is the main thing. After all, dog food is scientifically matched, and the dog’s body can be healthy only if the nutrition is sufficient!

Above is how to care for your pregnant dog. Try to feed the dog food with high protein after pregnancy, or you can directly choose to feed the dog food that the dog eats during pregnancy, and the feeding should be regular and quantitative, do not feed indigestible food, and pay attention to supplement the drinking water.
