What is an airedale terrier? What does airedale terrier look like?

What is an airedale terrier?

The airedale terrier is an extra-large terrier named after the “Airedale” valley in Yorkshire, where it originated. Strong and energetic, willing to swim, especially in the water. The airedale terrier is an improved breed of the otter dog and the extinct black and brown terrier. Often used to hunt otters, bears, wolves, boars, stags, etc. During the First World War, it was first used by the British Army as a military dog for guarding and ordering tasks. There was once an all-purpose terrier named Jack, who was awarded the Victoria Cross after his death for his bravery on the battlefield. The airedale terrier is loyal and friendly. It is an ideal family guard dog, but it also has a more stubborn side. The breeder must train and care for it with a strict attitude. The advantage of airedale terrier is that it does not remove hair. Belonging to the vigorous dog, daily long-distance walks must be adhered to.

What does airedale terrier look like?

The head and ears are brown, with the ears slightly darker than elsewhere. Dark shadows on one side of the skull are permitted. The thighs and below the elbows, the lower part of the torso and the chest are also brown, and the brown extends to the shoulders. The sides of the upper part of the body should be black or dark gray. Black is sometimes mixed with red, but it is not welcome. White spots on the chest are characteristic of certain strains of this breed.
airedale terrier living habits

The young period of airedale terrier is the main stage of growth and development, and the body grows rapidly, so it must be supplied with sufficient nutrition. Generally, the body and weight are mainly increased in the first 3 months after birth, the body length is mainly increased in 4 to 6 months, and the body height is mainly increased after 7 months. Therefore, different diets should be formulated according to different developmental stages. The puppies after weaning, due to sudden changes in living conditions, often appear restless, lose appetite, and are prone to illness. At this time, the selected feed should be palatable and easy to digest.
Puppies under 3 months should be fed at least 4 times a day. For dogs with poor appetite, you can use the method of feeding times first, feeding good ones later, and feeding less frequently. Good first and then good can keep the dog’s appetite strong, and less frequent feeding can make the dog always feel full, not tired and picky eaters.
Puppies under 3 months should be fed porridge, milk or soy milk and add appropriate amount of chopped fish, meat and chopped cooked vegetables. In order to reduce the cost of feed without affecting the nutrition of the puppies, the organs such as pig and cow lungs can be cooked and chopped, mixed with cooked food such as green vegetables and cornmeal, and then fed to the dogs. This is economical and the dogs love to eat. . Some people think that if the dog is fed all meat, it can make the dog grow strong, but this is wrong.
For puppies aged 4-6 months, the food intake increases, the body weight increases rapidly, and the daily required feed amount also increases, at least 3 times a day. Dogs after 6 months of age can be fed twice a day – the puppy‘s diet should be fed according to the original dog owner’s diet first, and then gradually changed.
Eating all meat not only can not make the dog healthy, but because of indigestion, it is difficult to absorb and cause diarrhea in most dogs. Although there is a lot of protein in meat, it has less vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E and shyness. At the same time, there is less calcium and more phosphorus in meat. Eating meat for a long time will easily cause the disorder of bone formation in the puppies due to the imbalance of calcium and phosphorus ratio. It is easy to break or have limbs. For large dogs such as Great Danes, it is not suitable to feed a large amount of meat too early, otherwise it may cause bending of the forelimbs. In puppy breeding, water is absolutely essential, and you should always put a basin of clean water in a fixed place so that it can drink freely before and after eating and exercising.
airedale terrier rearing

The airedale terrier is strong and vigorous, with good character in childhood, and in adulthood, they display a noble indifference to strangers. The advantage is that it does not shed hair. Belonging to the vigorous dog, daily long-distance walks must be adhered to.

character training
airedale terrier loves swimming, especially life in the water. He should develop the habit of swimming at a very young age, otherwise he may be afraid of water because he has little contact with water in his life. The Universal Terrier is receptive, intelligent, alert, loyal, can complete tasks even if injured, and has strong endurance. It is flexible, alert, obedient, loyal and friendly, and is an ideal family guard dog. But it also has a more stubborn side, and it needs to be trained and cared for with a strict attitude. The dog has a strong personality and is not easy to keep with other dogs.

beauty hygiene
Comb it with a stiff-bristle brush to remove dust and dirt stuck to its fur after every outing and come home, and give it a regular bath and trim. In spring and autumn, you can take a bath every 10 to 15 days, and use a hairdryer to dry the water after washing to prevent colds and illnesses. In summer, it is necessary to take a bath every 1 to 2 days to ensure the cleanliness of the body and no peculiar smell. Every 5 to 7 days, it is necessary to remove earwax and tartar, trim toenails regularly, and sometimes use warm and cold water to wash the eyes to prevent the occurrence of eye diseases.
