House training a puppy can be a challenging task for any new dog owner. However, with patience and consistency, it can be done. When it comes to house training an Akita puppy, there are some specific things that you need to know. In this article, we will discuss how to house train an Akita puppy, step by step.

  • Step 1: Establish a Routine

The first step in house training an Akita puppy is to establish a routine. Puppies thrive on routine, so it’s important to set up a consistent schedule for feeding, potty breaks, and playtime. This will help your puppy learn when it’s time to go outside to use the bathroom.

Start by taking your puppy outside first thing in the morning, after meals, and before bedtime. Praise your puppy when they go potty outside and give them a treat. This positive reinforcement will help your puppy learn that going potty outside is a good thing.

  • Step 2: Crate Training

Crate training is an essential part of house training any puppy, including an Akita. A crate can help your puppy feel safe and secure, and it can also help prevent accidents inside the house.

When introducing your puppy to the crate, make it a positive experience. Put some treats and toys inside the crate to encourage your puppy to go inside. Start by leaving the door to the crate open so that your puppy can explore it on their own.

Once your puppy is comfortable going inside the crate, you can start closing the door for short periods of time. Gradually increase the amount of time that your puppy spends in the crate, but never leave them inside for more than a few hours at a time.

  • Step 3: Supervision

When you’re house training an Akita puppy, it’s important to supervise them at all times. This means keeping a close eye on them and preventing them from having accidents inside the house.

If you can’t keep an eye on your puppy, then confine them to a small area of the house, such as a playpen or a gated area. This will help prevent accidents and give your puppy a safe place to play.

  • Step 4: Consistency

Consistency is key when it comes to house training an Akita puppy. Stick to the routine that you have established, and be patient. It may take several weeks or even months for your puppy to become fully house trained.

If your puppy has an accident inside the house, don’t punish them. Instead, clean up the mess and take your puppy outside immediately. Praise them when they go potty outside, and continue to reinforce positive behavior.

  • Step 5: Patience

House training a puppy can be frustrating at times, but it’s important to remain patient. Remember that your puppy is still learning, and accidents are bound to happen.

With patience and consistency, your Akita puppy will eventually learn where it’s appropriate to go potty. In the meantime, be sure to praise and reward your puppy for good behavior, and always provide plenty of love and affection.

House training an Akita puppy takes time, patience, and consistency. By establishing a routine, crate training, supervising your puppy, being consistent, and remaining patient, you can successfully house train your puppy. With a little bit of effort and lots of love, your Akita puppy will become a well-behaved and house trained companion that you can be proud of.
