What is gyrinocheilus aymonieri?

Golden moss rat, Gyrinocheilus aymonieri (Tirant, 1883), a species of fish belonging to the genus Dipteridae. The etiolated species of the moss rat are basically indistinguishable except that the body color is golden yellow.

Mainly sucks the sand in the tank/moss on the tank walls. Mild fish, not aggressive. It can be mixed with most small fish, and the moss rat can adapt to the water temperature of 15 ℃ to 30 ℃. Anomalous and rodents belong to scaleless fish.

What does gyrinocheilus aymonieri look like?

The whole body is golden and belongs to the scaleless fish. Body slender, slightly flattened. The highest body is vertically above the origin of the pectoral fins, and it slopes sharply forward and straight backward. The head is long and the side is flat. The tip of the snout is slightly pointed. Eyes superior, not visible in ventral view, clearly located on the back half of the head. Mouth inferior, with well-developed and sparse protrusions on the edge of the upper lip, and the lateral ends are connected to the base of the corners of the mouth. The posterior labial groove is deeply rooted. There are 3 pairs of whiskers, 2 pairs of kisses, and 1 pair of squabbles. The outer edge of the dorsal fin is slightly convex; the left and right bases of the pectoral fins are close together; the pelvic fins are short and the left and right bases are close together; the anal fins are short; the caudal fin is deeply concave. There are two black vertical stripes from the tip of the snout to the front of the eyes, and the fins are light brown and spotless. Body length up to 180 mm.

Reproduction is difficult. Mature male and female fish are used as broodstock and spawn in the morning or evening. The female fish first takes the semen from the male fish and sends it to the leaves or rocks of the aquatic plants, and lets it stick to it, and then the female fish lays eggs to fertilize it. . After spawning, the eggs remain in the water and hatch into larvae after 1 to 3 days. Larvae crawl for food, and can eat Daphnia or artificial larvae with bait.
