What is lemur? What does lemur look like?

What is lemur?

Lemuridae: 1 family of the primate protosimian suborder, commonly known as lemurs. 5 genera and 21 species have been found. The body size varies greatly, the body length is 13-60 cm, and the weight is 60-3000 grams; the tail length is 17-60 cm, which is equal to or exceeds the body length, and the tail hair is dense and long, mostly broom-shaped; the eyes are large; The large species have an elongated snout that resembles a fox’s mouth; the outer ear shell is semicircular or densely haired; the hindlimbs are longer than the forelimbs, the fingers and toes have flat fingernails, and there are 36 teeth, missing the upper incisors.
Inhabit tropical rain forests or dry forests or shrubs, and some live in bamboo forests, reed areas or unforested mountains. Active during the day or night, eating insects, fruit, reeds, leaves, and occasionally small birds. Alone or in groups as a family. There are dormant phenomena, some for only 3 days, and some for several weeks. The gestation period is 120-150 days, and the litter is born from September to November. Each litter produces 1 offspring, and it is sexually mature at 18 months. distributed in Madagascar.

What does lemur look like?

The lemur is 13-60 cm long and weighs 60-3000 grams; the tail is 17-60 cm long, equal to or exceeding the body length, with dense and long tail hair, mostly broom-shaped; large eyes; color; large species have an elongated snout, shaped like a fox mouth; outer ear shells are semi-circular or densely haired; hind limbs are longer than fore limbs, with flat fingernails on the fingers and toes, and the second toe is grooved and curved in the smaller species claws; 36 teeth, missing upper incisors.
These lemurs come in all shapes and sizes, with thick and soft fur in a variety of colors and markings. Most lemurs are reddish, brown, grey and black. The ring-tailed lemur, or Madagascar cat, has a grey-brown back and black and white rings on the tail.

lemur living habits

Lemurs are the most primitive monkeys. Although its body shape, hands and feet are like monkeys, its face is like a fox and a dog. They have a beautiful long tail with black and white links. They like to bask in the sun, and they arch their backs when they are basking, much like a squirrel, stretching out their arms and legs to enjoy the warmth of the sun. It turns out that they are very afraid of the cold, and often a few gather their tails around themselves and their companions, and it is impossible to tell which tail belongs to which one. They are mild-mannered and clean, and use their claws for grooming and grooming every day. For a segment-tailed lemur, being born a male is doomed to be a “second-class citizen” all its life. In the festival-tailed lemur society, “the supremacy of women and children” is a law that cannot be violated. From another point of view, the segment-tailed lemur is also unusual. They belong to the order of primates, one of the direct ancestors of humans.
They are gentle “ghosts” of the Madagascar rainforest, feeding on fruit and caring about nothing but contact with their families. Madagascar lemurs, ring-tailed lemurs and giant lemurs are the most familiar members of the lemur family. When these lemurs move through the jungle, it’s not easy to tell them apart from the monkeys. These lemurs, which are larger than their counterparts in size and weight, spend more time on the ground.
When a lemur jumps from a tree to the ground in order to escape the enemy, look for food, or any other reason, looking for another tree to perch on, it can clearly see the difference between it and the monkey, because the lemur will first Bend, then jump continuously.

lemur rearing

In addition to the hands and feet of the lemur, the other parts of the mouth are like a fox and a dog. Lemurs currently have no subspecies, and they have a beautiful long tail. This kind of monkey likes to arch its back when basking in the sun, much like a squirrel, reaching out and enjoying the warmth of the sun.
It turned out that they were very afraid of the cold, and they often gathered together with their tails around themselves and their companions. It was almost impossible to tell which tail belonged to which one.
The smallest type of lemur is called “mouse lemur“, and some are only a few inches long. They are used to living in trees and are active at night. In the dry and hot season, mouse lemurs sleep for a long time and don’t eat for a few weeks. However, before sleeping for a long time, they should eat as much as possible to store up fat, and then slowly absorb it into the body when they are on a hunger strike. Go to the various ministries and organizations to maintain life.
The least common among lemurs is a tarsier (details), whose body is only as large as a mouse. They live in bamboo forests and live a night life. A long tail is bare except for a tuft of hair at the tip of the tail. The eyes are very big, and the round ones seem to be wearing a pair of glasses, so they are called “tarsier monkeys”. Disc-like things grow on its fingers and toes, so it can crawl on slippery surfaces.
Among this type of extremely low-level monkeys, there is also a species called Pinched monkeys. It lives in the dense forests of Madagascar. They eat insects and especially like to eat sugarcane juice. They are often seen in sugarcane fields at night. The fingers of the piny-fingered monkey are extremely thin, especially the middle finger, which is only as thick as monkey silk. Such slender fingers can be useful, and can dig insects out of small holes in the bark to eat. I also eat eggs and hard nut shells. When I eat them, I bite them open with my teeth, hold them with one hand, and then use this very thin finger to go in and dig out the contents to eat. The speed of digging is extremely fast. .
In addition, the weasel lemurs produced near Madagascar are smaller than ordinary lemurs. Weasel lemurs have a special digestive system, which can eat their own feces again and absorb its nutrients in the cecum. This “cecal-absorbing” animal is extremely rare in primates. Weasel lemurs are nocturnal monkeys (with the exception of Nosypi weasel lemurs). During the day, when the weather is very hot, they sleep in the shade of tree ledges and branches, and come out to feed at night. Different from most nocturnal animals, weasel lemurs do not eat animal food such as insects, but mainly eat leaves, flower buds and other plants.
