What is a turkish van? What does a turkish van look like?

What is a turkish van?

The Turkish Van cat, native to Turkey, is long and sturdy, with medium-length long hair, white and shiny, and the hair is very smooth like silk. Except for the creamy yellow or light brown markings on the head, ears and tail, there is not a single miscellaneous hair, and the appearance is extremely beautiful and lovely. The head is broadly wedge-shaped; the ears are small; the eyes are large oval. Smart, alert, lively, likes to play and climb. It has a sweet and melodious voice and is friendly to people. It is an excellent breed that is very suitable for family breeding. The Turkish Van cat is a national treasure of Turkey. It originated in the Van Lake area of Turkey. It was mutated from the Turkish Angora cat. Strictly speaking, it is a strain of the Angora cat.

Most cats have three different types of fur: warm guards, insulating and waterproof awns, and soft, curly undercoats, but Turkish cats have only one: it has a texture like rabbit or cashmere wool, Once wet, it can be air-dried quickly. The climate at Lake Van is so extreme that Van cats molt to suit the weather. The hair grows thicker in winter, and the hair on the neck grows like a large plait. By warm summer the hair will shed a lot and become very short, except that the tail remains winter-like, like a bottle brush. The Turkish Van is long and sturdy with muscular shoulders; a wedge-shaped head and hairy ears; a slender nose with colored ends; and pink paws. The eyes are round and amber; the tail is long and the coat is dense and golden brown. The Turkish Van has a dense, soft silky coat, but no wool-like undercoat. In winter its coat is completely comparable to BT’s long coat; in summer the coat is gradually shed. The base coat is white with some golden brown markings on the front of the ears; the tail also has dark markings. The limbs are of medium length, of a strong build and rather stocky. Weight about 3 to 8.5 kg. The head is medium to large. The length is at least equal to the width. Arc lines. No corners, no straight lines. High cheekbones. The muzzle is plump and round. Slightly terminating in the nose, with a delicate aquiline at the tip. The muzzle and cheeks are clearly demarcated. The chin is slightly rounded. The ears are large, broad at the base, set high, and slightly rounded at the tips. The eyes are large, chestnut-shaped or walnut-shaped, with slightly raised eye tips. The eyelids are accented in pink. Color: blue, amber or different colors. Green is also acceptable, but amber is preferred. The neck is short and stout. The body is long, large and strong. The rib cage is rounded. The hips are quite broad. The skeleton is large and muscular. Claws moderately long. The hind legs are longer than the front legs. The bones are medium in size and well muscled. The claws are rounded. Thick hair between the toes. The tail is moderately long, thick, and covered with a dense, downy coat. At least 5 cm long. Colors are evenly distributed throughout the tail. The coat is semi-long to long, soft, silky, without a woolly undercoat. The collar and trousers are thick in winter. Pure white coat with reddish-brown or cream symmetrical markings. The base of the ear is separated by a white flame pattern. This arrangement of stripes is called the “Lake Van” pattern. The main colors recognized are: red and white, cream and white.
turkish van living habits

Unlike ordinary cats, Turkish Van cats like to play in the water, and when bathed in warm water, they will show great interest, like a baby who often bathes. It is lively and kind to people.
In addition, the Turkish Van cat is particularly tenacious, has good environmental tolerance, is very lively, and loves swimming. Although once considered aggressive, through the efforts of breeding experts,
Turkish Van cats are intelligent and easily get used to their new home and owner. Since Van Cat is a master jumper, it can appear in almost every corner of the house. They are active, playful and sleepy. Often persevering to snatch objects that arouse its interest, many owners call them “cat-like dogs” because their personalities are very similar to dogs.
