What is boykin spaniel?
The Boykin Dog Association was established in 1977 and began maintaining a pedigree register in 1979. In 1997 the breed entered the American Kennel Club Foundation Joint Service Records Program. In January 2006 the breed became eligible to compete in the AKC Dog Hunt Test for the official AKC Championship. The July 2006 Boykin is eligible for the AKC Championship, AKC Agility, Track, Solidarity Obedience, and Regular Obedience. On January 1, 2008 Boykins became part of the other groups of the American Kennel Club. At the April 2009 board meeting, the AKC voted to place the Boykin in the sporting dog group. The Boykin officially became an AKC registered breed in December 2009.
What does boykin spaniel look like?
Medium size, well-proportioned and strong, with smooth and firm muscles. A well balanced dog length to height ratio is about 7.6. The ideal height for a dog is 15-18 inches and 14-16 inches at the shoulder. Ideal weight 30-40 pounds, bitches 25-35 pounds.
Defects: Excessive bone mass, excess weight, and long legs are considered defects.
head
The expression is alert, confident, and attractive. The eyes are yellow to brown. The expression is alert, intelligent and trustworthy. The eyes should not protrude or bulge. Dark yellow is better than light yellow. The ears are positioned slightly above or at the same level as the eyes. The ears can be stretched to the tip of the nose.
