What is a British Shorthair? What does a British Shorthair look like?

What is a british shorthair?

The British Shorthair cat has a chubby body, stubby and well-developed limbs, short and dense hair, a big head and a round face, gentle and calm, friendly to people, and easy to keep. The large, round eyes vary in color depending on the coat. As an ancient cat breed, its history can be traced back to the ancient Roman period of the domestic cat, due to its long breeding history, it can be regarded as a model in the cat family. In addition to having a fixed ear distance and representative genetic characteristics, British Shorthair cats also have rich variability, such as back coat color and eye color. What’s more, with an extensive breeding history, this cat has a healthier body and a more docile personality.

What does a British Shorthair look like?

Appearance: Very thick body, full and broad chest, strong legs, short to medium in length, well rounded claws, strong at the base of the tail, and blunt at the tip. The head is round, with widely spaced ears, round cheeks, strong chin, ears of medium size, large, round eyes well-opened, and a moderately wide nose. The coat is short and very dense. Male cats have more developed gills than female cats, and are larger than female cats in every way. It takes three to five years for this breed to fully develop. Cats should exhibit overall symmetry and proportions and should not overemphasize a feature that would induce neglect or extreme tendencies in the breeding process. From medium to large, the skeleton and muscles are well developed. The short, fat neck, matched with broad and flat shoulders, is suitable for hunting. The head is round and broad, the biggest feature is that the distance between the lugs is very close, and the length of the tail is about 2/3 of the body.
Coat Color: Fifteen breeds are recognized, the most famous of which is the blue British Shorthair. Shaded tabbys are not considered bad in solid, smoke, shaded, shaded gold, bicolor, and tricolor kittens.
Coat Quality: Short, dense down, elastic and wraps the body tightly. Good cold resistance.
Hair species: short hair species.
Eyes: Round and large, wide open, set wide and flat.
Eye color: varies according to body hair.
British shorthair cat habits

adaptability
Its adaptability is very strong and will not change due to changes in the environment. So, if you buy this cat, don’t worry about it giving you a headache due to changing circumstances.
character
British Shorthairs are bold and curious, but very gentle, not tantrums or barking.
sports
British Shorthairs like to be close to their owners and sleep on your lap. However, cats who do not exercise for a long time will easily gain weight, and cats who are overweight will also have problems with their physical conditions. Therefore, you should play games with it for at least half an hour every day.
shedding
The British Shorthair’s coat is soft and thick like flannel, rarely sheds and easy to care for. However, cats shed their hair all year round, especially during the molting seasons of spring and fall. When cats groom themselves, the hair will be swallowed into the stomach, and over time, hair balls will be formed in the stomach. If it cannot be spit out through vomiting, and cannot be excreted through the intestinal tract in time, it will be blocked in the stomach, which will affect the appetite and even endanger life. . Therefore, if it is in the period of depilation, the owner can comb the hair for a few more times a day or let it eat the depilatory cream.
British Shorthair Cat Breeding

purchase criteria
Appearance: From medium to large. The skeleton and muscles are well developed, with a short, fat neck matched with broad and flat shoulders. The head is round and broad, and the biggest feature is the close distance of the lugs.
Coat Quality: Short, dense down, elastic and wraps the body tightly.
Type of hair: short-haired

Eye color: varies according to body hair
Characteristics: The head is broad and round, with a small distance between the ears. The eyes are large and round, and the neck is thick and short. The length of the tail is about 2/3 of the body length.

Food and drinking bowls
Food bowls and drinking bowls are essential tools for raising cats. Usually cats are very sensitive to their own utensils, and it is best not to change cat utensils during their lifetime. Some cats will have refusal to eat or indigestion when they change the food bowl, especially elderly cats. Suddenly changing the tableware will make it very nervous and affect its health. So choose utensils that are sturdy and durable at the beginning and have enough capacity. The British short nose is short and the face is round and flat. It is best to use a plate when choosing tableware for it, because its large and flat face cannot eat food in a small bowl. Using a plate will make it feel comfortable and prevent swallowing. Too much air can cause stomach bloating and affect health. The large bowl of water will wet the hair on your baby’s chin and cheeks. In the selection of materials, pay attention to the firm texture, the thick bottom of the plate, and the blunt edge of the plate. Some English shorts were very naughty when they were young, and it was easy to get food out of the plate when eating, so you can put an old newspaper under the plate to clean up and keep the ground clean.

cat toilet
The cat toilet is also called the cat litter box, which is the place where the cat urinates. Never allow cats to use human toilets. It is also very convenient to go directly to the pet store to buy a dedicated toilet. The cat litter box is made of plastic, which is easy to clean. There are generally two types of cat toilets, which are also house-shaped and basin-shaped. The basin type cat toilet is more commonly used because the price is lower. The edge of the cat litter box sold by the pet store has an inward buckled edge, which is used to prevent the cat from taking out the sand in the box when it enters and exits, and the effect rate is 70%. The house-shaped cat toilet is fully enclosed, with an activated carbon filter device on the top, and a translucent two-way movable door is added. When the cat enters and exits, almost no sand will come out. The effect rate is 98%, and the appearance is beautiful. Smell any smell, but the price is higher, usually more than two hundred one. In summer, this kind of house-shaped cat toilet is closed, so the smell inside will be very strong, and the British shorthair who loves cleanliness will dislike it, so the feces will be discharged to other places. At this time, you can remove the movable door of the cat toilet, or increase the frequency of cleaning the feces.
When buying a litter box, don’t forget to buy cat litter, because British short noses are easy to be allergic to dust, so when choosing cat litter, you must pay attention to buying cat litter with less dust and good quality. There are many varieties of cat litter. You can ask experienced friends about the quality of various cat litter. If you don’t care about the price, crystal cat litter or paper cat litter are good choices.
