What do you need to know before training your dog?

What do you need to know before training your dog?

There are many forms and methods of dog training, but first of all, it is an important principle that we understand what important factors must be before training a dog.

Dog training principle 1; confirm the leader’s status The first principle of dog training: you must be the dog’s boss, be the dog’s real owner, and get the dog’s respect. People who like dogs and decide to stay with them, love is not enough, they also need to understand some dog habits and psychological common sense, in order to become the dog boss, or “pack leader”, Get the dog’s respect, so that the dog can really understand what you want to express to it and effectively implement it. Otherwise, it can only be a follower of the dog.

Dog training principle 2; conditioned reflex, whether it is domestic or foreign, generally follows the principle or the way is inseparable from the “Pavlovian conditioning”, that is, the classical conditioning (acquisition, extinction, recovery, generalization) to establish an inevitable reflex conditional guidance or Capture a certain behavior of the dog, and then add a stimulus (which can be good or bad). Here is an example. Whenever the dog barks, we give the dog a dog food as a reward. At this time, the dog will associate the barking with the positive stimulus (reward) to obtain the most basic conditioned reflex. After many repetitions, the dog will start barking when we take out the dog food or make the action of taking out the dog food.

Dog Training Principle 3; Dog’s Vertical Thinking Then it is not enough to follow this most basic principle. There is a saying that “dogs are animals that live in the moment”, which means that dogs only have vertical thinking but not logical thinking. Here are two more examples:

  1. After you went out to work this morning, the dog urinated on the ground, and found it when you got home at night. You beat him up. The dog will feel inexplicable, because in his opinion, he is waiting for you to come home, and it is not your warm feedback but a violent beating. He doesn’t associate morning piss with night beatings, he only associates his current passion with evening beatings.
  2. Tonight you are going to go out and have a party with friends. The dog just barked before you went out. You just opened the door at this time. The dog would naively think that it was because he barked and the door opened, and his bark was a Behaviour, the opening of the door is a result, he simply linked the two together, he would never understand that the door is opened by people, not by calls.

In summary, we know: the dog’s conditioned reflex can be established, and the dog will associate what is happening at the moment with its own behavior. So at this point, we can start preparing to train (educate) the dog. Everything has its purpose and meaning, and so does dog education. If you just want to simply teach your dog those so-called talents, skills, and subjects, then I suggest you not to train your dog; in other words, the dog needs to integrate into and adapt to human society and have correct values before training these It’s not too late for the icing on the cake. As dog owners, we should assume the responsibility of raising, educating, protecting, cooperating, leading, and tolerant of dogs. There are thousands of training methods, and the purpose is the same. We hope that dogs can better integrate into into the human world. No dog understands how to deal with people when it is born, not to mention that people are complex logical thinking creatures. For pure dogs, accepting human beings is not an easy thing. Therefore, in daily training , we don’t have high expectations for the dog itself, the upper limit of the dog’s talent development is affected by many factors (genes, blood, breed, acquired professional training, time, patience), but the lower limit of the dog is only affected by one factor, that It is the owner’s values. A dog raised by an irresponsible owner must not be a dog that is obedient and socialized. Many people say that raising a dog is like raising a child. Yes, it is true.
